The Best Drugstore Highlighter: Essence Pure Nude Highlighter

essence pure nude highlight review

So my last blog post was a little heavy on the “self development” side of things, and while I love writing the more thought provoking content, I knew when I started my blog, I wanted to talk fashion and beauty as well. That’s where my brain tends to wander when it’s left to its own devices, after all.

Plus, I’m definitely one of those people who sees the importance of blogging about what you’re passionate about. So today, a lighter post is coming at ‘ya, giving you the scoop on the best drugstore highlighter I’ve ever tried.

Now, first of all, if you’re not using highlighter in your makeup routine, girl, get your booty up and to your local drugstore, or Sephora, or wherever you buy your makeup! Or hey, just order it online, because trust me, highlighter is a game changer in a makeup routine.

So, what highlighter should you invest in?

This post contains some affiliate links, meaning I make a small commission if you choose to purchase through one of links. But don’t worry, I only recommend things I truly believe in. Thank you for supporting Hustle and Hearts. You rock 😉

You don’t need to go full Champagne Pop to get a glowing highlight (if you watch beauty YouTube videos, you know what I’m talking about), but just a light dusting on your cheekbones of a basic highlighter will make your skin look glowy, fresh, and oh-so-vibrant.

Personally, I like to go for the more natural highlight that gives my skin a lit-from-within look, rather than a harsh highlight. Nothing too over-the-top.

Okay, so you’re on board with me now? Highlighter, highlighter, highlighter. Get yourself a highlighter.

But what if you don’t want to spend an arm and a leg on a highlighter?

Because, trust me, they can be expensive little things. I regularly like to use the Two Faced Candlelight Glow, but at $30 USD, the only reason I actually felt okay buying this was because I had a gift card.

I’m usually a huge drugstore makeup kind of girl, with only the occasional indulgence at Sephora. The problem with this? Last time I went to the drugstore on the hunt for an affordable highlight, it took a whole lot of digging to find it.

But I did!

Hello Essence Pure Nude Highlight. This baby was buried at the bottom of the shelves, on the opposite wall of where all the major brands are, but at only $4.49 USD, I figured I might as well give it a try.

And holy cow, I’m glad I did!

Not only is this highlighter super inexpensive, but it gives such a natural and pretty glow to your skin.

I would almost say it’s a sheen rather than anything sparkly. It’s not shiny or anything, though. I wouldn’t have you walking around looking greasy (not cute).

What is cute, though? When wearing this highlight, if the sun hits the high points of your cheekbones at just the right angle, you basically feel like an angel walking on earth. Seriously. And let me remind you, it only costs $5. I mean, that’s cheap even for the drugstore!

It doesn’t feel cheap, though. Honestly, I don’t notice much of a difference in my skin if I’m wearing my Two Faced highlight, or if I’m wearing the Pure Nude Highlight. And there’s more than a $20 price difference!

I know you ladies want to be saving yourself some money, which is why I’m highly recommending this “investment” in Essence.

Truly, in my opinion, it’s one of the best (most natural looking) highlighters out there.

Has anyone ever tried this highlighter? What did you think? I would love to know. If you haven’t, pick one up today. I know you’re going to love it.

I can’t say I’ve found my “holy grail” drugstore makeup products for every category, but I definitely know what I would pick when it comes to bronzer, brows, and concealer. If you guys liked this kind of post and want to know what drugstore products I would recommend in these categories as well, feel free to leave me a comment below. I love knowing what you’d like to see on the blog!

I found that the Elf Brow Kit is a great dupe for the Anastasia brow kit. Also the Revlon Matte lips are good. I couldn’t find a good enough high lighter.
