No doubts here: having clear skin can improve your self confidence.

I know this for a fact because for YEARS I struggled with severe acne, and it greatly impacted how I felt myself.

(If you’d like to hear my story of how I cleared my severe acne, you can check it out here).

Since then, I’ve become a bit obsessed with skincare.

While, of course, inner beauty is more important, I do think when you have glowing skin, it allows you to reflect that inner beauty in an outwards way. So, today, I want to share with you 12 things women with clear skin always do.

Most of these I do myself, and some are things that I aspire to do so I can continually improve my skin. Check out which ones you’re not implementing and see if you can work them into your current skincare routine. The more you do for your skin, the more it will pay you back with a glowing complexion.

12 Skincare Tips That Women With Clear Skin Always Do

1. Women with clear skin ALWAYS remove their makeup (thoroughly)

I know, I know, everyone tells you to do this, but I can’t stress to you how crazy imperative it is for clear skin.

When you leave makeup on your face overnight, it’s inevitable that the product will clog your pores. This is particularly important to pay attention to if you’re using heavy foundations, concealers, or cheaper drugstore products that have ingredients like talc (avoid talc, and look for makeup that is non-comedogenic).

This is absolutely the best product for makeup removal. It gets everything, and you can easily use it on your eyes without any stinging or burning (it even effortlessly takes off waterproof mascara!).

2. Women with clear skin consider their makeup

Speaking of makeup…

Women with clear skin always consider what makeup they’re putting on their face.

They use high quality products, and again, they look for non-comedogenic makeup.

Personally, my absolute favourite makeup for clear skin is the It Cosmetics Your Skin But Better CC Cream.

This product is not only light and breathable, it’s also full of skin-loving ingredients that actually help improve the look of your skin even when you’re not wearing the product (things like Vitamin C, hyaluronic acid, collagen, and antioxidants are all present in this product).

If you’re interested, you can read my in-depth review of the It Cosmetics Your Skin But Better Cream here. It truly has been a game-changer in both my makeup and my skincare routine.

3. Women with clear skin switch up their products

While I continue to repurchase my It Cosmetics CC Cream, when it comes to skincare, I try my best to consistently switch things up.

I find that by changing out my products, it allows my skin to experience different treatments and ingredients.

When I stick to the same product over and over agin, I find my skin adapts and the product stop working as well as it once did.

That’s not to say you can’t have some skincare must-haves, but I would still recommend trying out different products every couple months or so.

4. Women with clear skin have a go-to cleanser and moisturizer

If I could pick only two skincare products that are absolute musts in a women’s skincare routine, it would definitely be a good cleanser and a moisturizer.

Women with clear skin always have their go-to cleanser and moisturizer.

While they’re always up for trying out new products, as mentioned above, they also know what works well on their face, and they always go back to those go-to products if they have a breakout.

For me, my go-to cleanser is the Bioderma Micellar Water (I love this because it always removes makeup and it’s very gentle), and the best moisturizer I have ever tried is Clinique’s 72 Hour Moisture Surge (using this moisturizer is like giving your skin a big glass of water. It’s amazing).

5. Women with clear skin get facials

I would be lying if I said I get regular facials, but I have done them in the past, and I can say from experience that they definitely make a difference in the look and feel of my skin.

There’s just something about a trained aesthetician using high-quality products on your face that you can’t get from at home treatments.

I would suggest getting facials every month, or as much as you can afford it.

6. Women with clear skin use at home products (jade rolling!)

Having said that, women with clear skin work with what they have.

If you can’t afford monthly facials, try at home treatments.

In particular, I’m a big fan of the jade roller.

When I had my facial done, she used a jade roller, and I went out and purchased one the next week! That’s how good it felt.

Not to mention, I can clearly tell that my face is less puffy when I’m regularly jade rolling.

Get your own jade roller here.

Pro Tip For Jade Rolling:

When jade rolling, make sure to roll outwards (i.e. start at the midline of your face and then roll out, so not towards your nose, but towards your ear). Once done, jade roll down your neck to help with lymphatic drainage. This will dramatically help with depuffing your face, especially if you’re prone to sinus congestion, like myself. It’s also great for helping to reduce sinus related headaches!

7. Women with clear skin drink water

While I know this probably isn’t the first time somebody has told you this, I still have to mention it, because women with clear skin are always well-hydrated.

While not everyone will agree that drinking water improves your skin, I ALWAYS find that my skin is much brighter when I’m hydrated. If I’m chugging coffee and not drinking water, my skin is dull and flat.

No thank you! Drink water. Plain and simple.

8. Women with clear skin eat clean

In that same vein, what you’re eating also impacts the look of your skin.

While this will definitely vary from person to person, it’s important to pay attention to what foods are giving you issues with breakouts.

For some, diary can be problematic, while for others, a high-fat diet can create a lot of pimples.

Pay attention to what you’re eating, and make note of how your food is impacting your skin. Once you actually start to pay attention, you’ll probably be able to pinpoint the foods that are causing breakouts.

Remember, though, everyone’s bodies are different, so what causes breakouts in one person might not be the case in another person. Pay attention to your specific reactions to different foods, and don’t go looking for answers on the internet (you’ll rarely find the answer this way).

9. Women with clear skin invest in serums

Serums aren’t always the cheapest skincare product, but in my experience, they are the best for taking your skin from average to radiant, glowing, and perfectly clear.

In particular, I always find that anything Vitamin C based is best for really improving radiance, and currently my favorite is the Truth Serum by Olehenriksen. You’ll immediately notice a difference in your skin when you’re regularly using this product, especially when in combination with a jade roller.

10. Women with clear skin exfoliate weekly

This is one that I often forget to do on a weekly basis, but it’s extremely important.

When you’re skipping exfoliation, you’re allowing dead skin cells to build up on your face, which is a recipe for a breakout.

Exfoliate weekly, and you’ll find your skin looks much more polished and glowing. Just remember, if you have sensitive or acne prone skin, be very gentle with exfoliation. As mentioned in my post about my acne journey, you want to be as gentle with your skin as possible, and if you’re exfoliating roughly, this can lead to a breakout.

11. Women with clear skin keep their hands off their face

Here’s an easy one: don’t touch your face!

This includes popping pimples.

I know all your friends are doing it, but trust me, pop a pimple the wrong way and you will have a scar.

Let the pimple be, don’t touch your face throughout the day, and you’ll be amazed with what a difference this can make in the look of your skin.

12. Women with clear skin double cleanse

And last but not least, I wanted to end with one that I haven’t started to do yet, but that I want to do.

What is double cleaning, you might be wondering?

Double cleaning is when you use two different cleansers during your night time skincare routine. You start by using an oil-based cleanser to breakdown any oil or makeup residue from the day, and then you finish with a water-based cleanser that is most well-suited for your particular skin type (oily, acne-prone, sensitive, dry, etc.)

By double cleaning you’re ensuring your skin is as clean as can be, but you’re also adding in that second cleansing step to give you the glow that we all strive for.
