How To Shift Your Mindset To Achieve Your Dreams

I know not every single one of you who reads this blog is necessarily a blogger yourself, which is why I wanted to take a step back from sharing the blog/business advice, and instead wanted to focus on sharing some lifestyle advice that can apply to anyone on a dream chasing journey. I’ve got 6 tips for helping you shift your mindset. Trust me, you need to make these changes if you want to start working towards your dreams, whether that be landing a job, switching jobs, launching a business, accomplishing a creative goal, or even just earning some extra cash from a side hustle.

Quick announcement first, though. I’ve changed my blog’s mission a little (expect to see a more in-depth post on this topic coming this week), but basically, I’m going to be sharing more lifestyle advice from now on. My goal is to create a motivational post like this at the beginning of each week. I truly believe mindset is such a big part of how your week goes, both personally and professionally, and if we can all start our weeks off on a positive note, that’s a win in my books! Who’s with me?

So today, here are 6 ways you can change your mindset to support your dreams:

This post does contain some affiliate links. Please know, I only recommend products I truly love. Thank you for supporting this little blog of mine.

1) Stop thinking good things will just “happen”

Good things come to those hustle.

If I had to pick my mantra in life, this would probably be it. When you’re not willing to put in the work, you’re not going to see the results. When I hear people complain about not getting what they want in life, but they’re not doing anything about that, it always boggles my mind a little.

Trust me, I get it. Roadblocks happen. Life is hard. Time is in short supply. But if you’re unhappy, you’re the only one responsible for changing that.

2) Negativity Breeds Negativity

This is something that is constantly a struggle for me. I can be pretty hard on myself, and once one thing goes wrong, all I want to do is wallow in that one thing. Obsessive personality much? This girl right here.

The reality is, though, when you do this, all you’re really doing is taking time away from being productive and getting you to where you want to be. Seriously, focusing on negativity does absolutely nothing for you, except make you feel like crap.

Here’s what I want you to do instead (and I’m talking to myself here too): acknowledge the crappy situation, take a moment to feel shitty about it, accept it, move on. Case closed.

3) Positive Self Talk

On the opposite end of the spectrum, let’s talk positivity.

I’m definitely not a “woo woo” type of girl. Ya know, the whole manifesting your dreams through good vibrations or focusing on cheesy mantras. It’s just not my jam. What I do believe in, though, is the more you tell yourself you can do something, the more likely it is that you’ll believe it and actually do it.

Maybe this is actually a little “woo-woo”, as they say, but I like to think of it more as the first step in the whole process of accomplishing a goal. Positive self talk doesn’t mean you have to work any less hard. All it means is that if you’re positive, you’re so much more likely to keep pushing forward, rather than hitting a roadblock and going into a downward spiral of self doubt.

Whatever it is that you’re working towards, keep that goal in mind and realize you can totally get there. Whatever you need to do in order to believe that, do it. If you need to write in a journal, write in a journal. If you need a manta, get yourself a damn manta. If you need a personal cheerleader to tell you you’ve got this, find that person. And hey, if treating yo’self to a little motivational goodie on this dream chasing journey is the pick-me-up you need, there is no shame in that. Whatever helps get you in the mindset of doing, do that thing.

I definitely am in that camp of ladies who get inspired when I treat myself. All these goodies are currently on my list, especially a journal! I write so much in mine, it’s almost full (and yes, being pink is a requirement 😉 not to mention that nice price tag! )

4) Stop Blaming Circumstances

I can’t do this because of that. I’ll never be that because of this. I won’t have this because of that.

I know we’re all friends here and all, but omg…please stop doing this.

I did this for a long time, and guess what? The second I stopped (or at least made a solid effort to stop), everything changed. Opportunities started popping up. Happiness increased. And all those positive vibes just stated rollllllllllin’ in.

If you’re in the realm of reality, anything you put your mind to and work hard for, is totally possible. And what I mean by that is you have to be realistic with yourself about your dreams. I realize even if I wanted to be a NFL quarterback, it’s not going to happen (not in the realm of possibility). If I want to be a writer who makes a full time income from a blog? Absolutely possible.

It’s very likely you’re putting up roadblocks to your own dream that is fully in the realm of possibility. Can ‘ya stop doing that please? K, cool.

5) Stop Focusing on Other People

Let’s all make a solid commitment to keep our eyes on the road in front of us, okay? I mean, come on, you would think by now we would have learned the comparison trap is a real thing.

I find myself there way too often, and it’s just so unproductive. Whether it’s comparing yourself to your friends, your family, other bloggers, even just acquaintances that you follow on social media, all of these comparisons are so unproductive.

Instead of blaming social media for feeling like your life “isn’t good enough”, take responsibility for how you’re feeling. Why do you feel that way? Remember, the internet and social media is just one aspect of a person’s life. Most of the time you have no idea what’s going on behind the scenes. Realize that whatever you’re working on in your life is totally unique to you. And girl, that is ahhhh-mazing!

6) Read This Book

Yup, a book recommendation coming at ‘ya, but I promise, this one is so worth your time.

I’ve read a lot of books in this whole self development field, and let me tell you, a lot of them were a struggle to get through. As you might be able to tell, I like a no BS approach to self development, and there is only one book I have ever found that fits that description.

The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck: A Counterintuitive Approach to Living a Good Life

Yup, I am absolutely obsessed with this book. I devoured every page of it in 24 hours. It was so on point with all my thoughts, and it totally got me into that mind frame of just doing instead of being such an anxious, overthinking mess (‘ya know, my natural state).

If you’re struggling with your mindset, I think this book is going to be your new best friend. Legit. It’s not woo-woo, there’s no eye roll worthy moments, and it’s really going to get you amped up to hustle hard for that dream. I know it did for me.
