How Fashion Bloggers Can Make Money Writing Articles

Are you a fashion blogger? Beauty blogger? An all around lifestyle blogger? In today’s day and age, chances are you have some type of experience in the digital space. So let me ask you: have you been searching for a way to make money writing articles from home?

Because, let’s be real, depending on where you are in your blogging path, if you clicked on this article, the money probably isn’t rolling in every time you hit that “publish” button.

Of course, for some, a personal blog is enough to start gaining a lucrative income, but as most of us who are familiar with the blogging space know, it takes time to develop and grow a blog large enough to make a living.

So, while you’re waiting for your blog’s brand and presence to gain momentum, how can you make money writing articles?

You have a couple options:

1. You can keep working on your blog, be patient, and hope eventually the money starts flowing in.

2. You can work on your blog during your “free-time,” while continuing to work either part-time or full-time at a job you’re probably not very passionate about.

3. Or you can take all the skills and experiences you’ve gained from blogging and make money off that, while still growing your own personal blog.

Which option sounds best to you?

Today I’m going to share with you how I recognized my passions for writing, fashion, and digital media and managed to turn those passions into a career through freelance writing.

With this method to freelance writing, I still get to work on my personal blog, but I have the comfort of knowing I’ll make money from my freelance writing to support me.

But what if I don’t want to be a freelance writer?

Now, wait, you might be thinking: But Andrea, I don’t want to be a freelance writer, I just want to make a little side cash while I’m working on my blog.

Totally cool. No worries.

Whether you’re looking to be a full time freelance writer, or you’re just looking for that side hustle, the advice I have for you today applies to both scenarios.

It really all just depends on how much time you’re willing to invest.

Become a full-time freelance writer who makes money writing articles from home, or write in your spare time to make some extra cash.

Either way, freelance writing can totally help you make money online.

Okay, so, in order to show you exactly how I personally make money writing articles, let me begin by introducing myself, if we haven’t met already.

Hi, I’m Andrea. It’s nice to meet you. Here’s my brief story about how I make money writing articles as a freelance writer:

how to become a freelance writer

I began my first blog back in 2012. It was a fashion/lifestyle blog called Wear It Better, and it was my complete and total passion project.

From working on Wear It Better, I realized I wanted to learn more about fashion in a formalized setting.

At the time, I was just finishing up my English degree, and I figured if I could further educate myself in the fashion realm, I would be set for obtaining that elusive “dream job” as a fashion writer.

My plan didn’t go exactly as I hoped.

I finished school with an English degree, and then graduated a year and half later with a Fashion Marketing diploma. With my education in hand, I felt more confused than ever about what I wanted to do with my life. I felt I had wasted precious time in school, and any future I had in the fashion industry was totally hopeless.

Completely dejected, I moved back home, worked part time, and desperately searched for a career that would give me total freedom and complete control over my hours, my work, and my location.

It took a lot of experimenting and research before I got there, but about a year and a half after moving back home, I discovered freelance writing and realized I could make money writing articles online!

To say I was elated to discover I could make legit income from my writing is a bit of an understatement, but here’s what I want you to understand about this process of writing articles for money:

1. You don’t have to wait on your blog to become your financial support. You can absolutely make money today doing the blogging activities you already know how to do.

2. You may not realize it, but every time you publish a new post, schedule a tweet, or shoot an amazing lookbook, you’re adding a set of skills to your resume that not everyone has. These skills and passions are capable of landing you that blogging job you’ve been dreaming of.

3. But please, understand, my advice for you here is not a quick and fast “get rich” plan. It’s either a side project for those who want that, or it’s a new way to hustle for those who dream of becoming full-time freelance writers who get to write on topics they’re passionate about.

I know all of this for certain because I’ve transitioned from hobbyist blogger, to fashion student, to boutique owner, to unemployed, and have finally landed in my ideal position: freelance writer with the freedom to travel, work on passion projects, and profit from my passion for writing.

Okay, enough talk.

What’s the one completely painless thing you can do to start finding those freelance writing jobs, so you can make money writing articles from home?

It’s simple,

Get signed up on Upwork for freelance writing jobs.

It’s that easy.

Are you freaking out? Have you heard of Upwork?

If you haven’t, very briefly, Upwork is a platform that allows businesses to post jobs that freelancers (in all sorts of fields) can bid on.

Freelancers submit proposals on why they think they’re the right candidate for the job, providing a bid on what they will charge the client for their services.

It’s kind of like eBay for freelancing. The client picks the candidate they feel is most suited for the job at the price they feel is most appropriate for their needs.

So why do I think you might be freaking out about using Upwork?

Well, because, unfortunately, Upwork does not have a very good reputation for helping aspiring freelance writers obtain quality jobs.

There are many people out there who will tell you Upwork is all low paying work, for long hours.

They’ll tell you that it’s for people who want to make $5/hour, or even less.

And, oh yes, they’ll tell you it’s not a real way to make money.

Trust me, I’ve read some comments floating around that make me shake my head.

When it comes to making money using Upwork, it’s completely false that it’s all low paying work.

With the exception of one, each and every single one of my freelance writing jobs has come from Upwork.

And, while I can’t boast that I’m some type of millionaire, I can say that within 3 months of finding Upwork, I quit my part-time job and began writing full-time from home.

Don’t feel you’re qualified? Confused about what kind of freelance writing jobs you’d find on Upwork?

Here are some examples that are perfect for you aspiring fashion bloggers who want to make money writing articles:

It’s all a matter of whether you have the hustle and the heart…

Do you?
